WHEN Gregory Cefai followed his sweetheart Anna Maria De Martino to Italy his passion for her rapidly came to also encompass her country's famous food.

Now back in Western Sydney, the Greystanes husband-and-wife team are trying to help other people find their love of "Cucina Italiana" with a website devoted to authentic Italian food produced in Australia.

Mr Cefai is a nominee in the champions of the West manufacturing/innovation category, sponsored by AGL, with his website "We have such great Italian food in Australia, this website is about getting people to embrace it."

The website is a directory of authentic businesses including those that have received the tick of approval by Italy's premier restaurant authority Ospitalita Italiana.

The website also lists the nine pizzerias in Australia which have been certified by Italy's main pizza authority Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana.

Mr Cefai said most Australians were unaware of these prestigious Italian food authorities.

"When these chefs get their certifications they are so happy but no one has ever heard of these credentials", he said. "It is a complete guarantee the restaurant is the best of the best for Italian restaurants in Australia".

The website also lists gelaterias, delis, bakeries and wineries he has researched to ensure their products are all produced in an authentic Italian style.
