Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition

05 September 2016 - 09 September 2016

Melbourne VIC

The third edition of the prestigious Sol D'Oro International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition - Southern Hemisphere will be hosted in Melbourne from 5-9 September 2016.

Previous editions have been held in Chile and South Africa, and this will be the first time the event makes its way to Australia, which is celebrated for its olive oil production and consumption.

Organised by Veronafiere, in collaboration with the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Melbourne, the competition rewards the best producers and helps spread knowledge of quality olive oil among buyers, operators and consumers around the world. Olive oils will be judged across three categories: delicate fruity, medium fruity and intense fruity, following a series of blind tastings by a jury of international panelists.

The awarded oils will be permitted to affix the Sol d'Oro, Sol d'Argento and Sol di Bronzo quality stickers to their winning products. They will also be presented, together with the Sol d'Oro Northern Hemisphere award winners, in December 2017 and to international buyers at the Oil Bar during the next edition of Sol&Agrifood - International Exhibition of Quality Agro-Foods in April 2017.

The event in Australia is sponsored and supported by the Government of Victoria, which views Sol d'Oro Southern Hemisphere as an incentive for the qualitative growth of the local olive oil sector and its international promotion.

Following the announcement of the winners and a guided tasting of the award-winning olive oils, there will also be two economic-focused events held on the final day specifically dedicated to market opportunities.
